Repurposing & Upcycling Original Art By GadgetSponge.com From Estate Sales

GadgetSpongeBrickWallLogo copy

We recently interviewed nationally known repurposing and upcycling artist Brian Carlisle, of Gadgetsponge.com “A New Spin On Old Objects” of Shreveport, LA.

Brian’s artistic talents and vision have enabled him to create unique and original art pieces.  His creative passions have allowed him to see the endless possibilities of everyday items that can be found at estate sales, and with his genius become fanciful repurposed and upcycled original pieces of interior art.

Brians’ early career was as a graphic artist who enjoyed putting his creative juices sporadically to work on weekends. In 2010 he decided to let his fervor to fashion unique art become a full time business.

We asked Brian about what he looks for and finds at estate sales to use in his artistry. He replied ” vintage wooden water skis, old porcelain enamel heaters, vintage toys or tin objects that are broken, yard sticks, silverplate (including trays, pots, and utensils), old sewing machine bases, retro kitchen canisters (especially if they are unique), house hardware such as hinges, bath fixtures, door knobs, (and emphasizing parts and pieces such as screws etc. should not be discarded).

Brian’s specialty is birdhouses for interior art decor. He does create other artistic pieces, but always with the concept that each must be unique, original, and a one of a kind.

Here are some of the currently available artistic creations of Brian Carlisle.

You can find these creations and others on gadgetsponge.com

Here are some social media links to find Brian and his art on.

Vintage TVs & Microphones From Estate Sales -Now Vintage TV Programs

Today we remember these great old vintage black and white televisions and microphones, but depending on your cable company (if you have cable) the old television shows can be watched.

MeTV, DECADES, and Antenna TV are on cable television with such rerun shows as Johnny Carson at 11pm on Antenna TV or McHales Navy and Mr. Ed in the 7am-9am hour. This weekend on DECADES they will have a Donna Reed Show marathon, and during the week Bill Curtis reviews events of different decades (great for history or trivia buffs) and MeTV shows such as Perry Mason, Matlock, Quincy ME.

All are throwbacks to a different time when reality TV didn’t occupy the airwaves and life, was made to look better than most had it. It left us smiling or laughing most of the time. The good old days!

Check Out Estate Sales For Fun Winter Items

Today we remember when the thought of heavy snow would bring big smiles to the faces of children thinking of all the sledding that awaited them on their Flexible Flyers and many adults could hardly wait to put on their wooden skis to head to the slopes or cross country ski.

Estate Sales Flourish Over Retail In All Kinds Of Market Trends

Today we celebrate Martin Luther Kings birthday and the stock market is closed. It is a federal holiday.

Retail stores are open, many offering sales, and estate liquidation companies are preparing for another weekend of sales. Estate liquidators have few holidays.

The stock market has been on a roller coaster ride during the first weeks of 2016, but estate liquidation companies report estate sales are flourishing.

Even with torrential rains in parts of the west, snow and cold in the midwest, and severe weather outbreaks in the south and southeast, estate sales are seeing higher numbers of buyers.

Retailers by their nature, have larger floor spaces to work with, but are constricted by their corporate owners, and what their buyers have chosen to offer for sale as well as being limited to pricing the new merchandise to sell in their stores.

Estate Sale of Audiophile in Victoria TX – Music Collection Extraordinaire

Gay Patek, owner of Simplify Your Space is holding an extraordinary audiophile sale starting January 14th through the 16th in Victoria, TX.  Gay has provided us with some background for this sale. Here is a link to her website

The sale is for the father of a client who graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Victoria, TX in 1953. After attending college and university he went to Michigan State University to get his Doctorate.

Both the husband and wife of this estate loved music and they became friends with a Corpus Christi music store owner who was a lifelong stereo buff that had a massive music collection. The trio added one more music buff, a sound engineer to their group. They would set up sound for music venues, collected, and experienced music together.

Estate Sale Terms & Conditions For Buyers

Most estate sale companies are winding down for 2015. There will still be estate sales this weekend and then most companies will be taking some much needed time off between Christmas and New Years to celebrate with family and friends and recharge for business in 2016.

Estate sale companies often post signs about the property explaining the terms and conditions of their sales. Understanding their terms can prevent disagreements.

All sales as is – this reflects that any purchase you make is sold in whatever condition it is in. Working or not, chips or cracks, faded, or perfect. What you see is what you are buying.

An Over Collector – Hoarder Estate Sale With 1000’s Of Items

An enormous estate sale of an over collector in Chesterfield, MO starting on December 18th conducted by A New Beginnings Estate Sale. A that home has 1000’s of items, many of which were purchased within the last five years and still have the price tags on them begins. Over 300 throw pillows is just the beginning of what you will find at this hoarder sale.

Working with an over collector or as some call them a hoarder is challenging. If it isn’t someone who is deceased it will requires patience, emotional understanding, and some very basic physcology. Estate liquidators wear many hats for just this reason. Explaining how they will approach the enormous task and what has to be done is only the beginning of the estate liquidation process.

Estate sales with this type of volume require extra weeks and hours of work and many times extra staff. Many estate sale companies may increase their commission because of the volume of items, sorting, the extra staging, and pricing it requires, however, each company works differently.

With Christmas two weeks away, we wanted to present some of what buyers will find at this enormous sale. Click here for a link to this estate sale.
