Vintage Sewing Machines At Estate Sales

For many years a large number of Americans wore homemade clothes and even draperies, curtains, and other items were sewn on these types of vintage sewing machines. Your editor’s first store bought dress came at the age of 13.

Let’s take a look at these different vintage sewing machines. Any of them look familiar to you?

Estate Sales Saturday, First Day, Second Day, Or Last Day

Today, Saturday, February 6, 2016 is another day of estate sales. Some are beginning, some are in the second or third day, and others are on the last day.

What does that mean for you buyers?

Well if it isn’t the first day it is an excellent time to return to those estate sales you visited earlier this week or perhaps haven’t visited. In many cases if the estate sale company is past the first day they may be reducing prices on some items, perhaps all. Each estate liquidator determines their own reduction policy.

Several liquidators even post their reduction policies so you are aware that no reductions will be made on day one, or that there maybe some items that will have a minimal reduction during the sale. Much of this is determined prior to the estate sale and is a decision that was reached between the liquidator and the seller(s)

If you upcycle or repurpose this is an excellent opportunity to find those items that may be reinvented.

You still have time to find that special or unique gift for next Sunday, February 14th for Valentines Day.

Happy saling this weekend and please let the estate sale companies know you read EstateSalesNews.com. Your source for estate sale information and news.

Downsizing or Decluttering And The Many Choices To Be Made

Downsizing or decluttering can make your life simpler. For most of us, this is something we will want or need to do at some point during our life.

It can appear a daunting task. If you know where you are going to move to, or simply want to lighten the amount of items packed away from your basement to your attic, or in closets or cupboards this will help in your decision making process. Making a list of what you want to accomplish is a good place to start.

If there are broken or damaged items they should be the easiest to dispose of.

Estate Sale of Audiophile in Victoria TX – Music Collection Extraordinaire

Gay Patek, owner of Simplify Your Space is holding an extraordinary audiophile sale starting January 14th through the 16th in Victoria, TX.  Gay has provided us with some background for this sale. Here is a link to her website

The sale is for the father of a client who graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Victoria, TX in 1953. After attending college and university he went to Michigan State University to get his Doctorate.

Both the husband and wife of this estate loved music and they became friends with a Corpus Christi music store owner who was a lifelong stereo buff that had a massive music collection. The trio added one more music buff, a sound engineer to their group. They would set up sound for music venues, collected, and experienced music together.

Vintage Shoes & Foot Items – Look For Them At Estate Sales

For the first Thursday of 2016 we remember when Saddle Shoes were the popular choice for children’s shoes and a Brannock Company measuring device was used by the shoe store salesman to determine what size was required. We also came across this brief video of an old shoe stretcher that was purchased at an estate sale.

Be sure to look for these and other great vintage shoe and foot items at estate sales.

2015 EstateSalesNews.com Year In Review – Help, Tips, Information

What a year it has been here at EstateSalesNews.com Here is a partial look at the nearly 200 articles that have been published on our front page this year.

In January we reported about advertising including the use of Facebook and SEO (search engine optimization). We also covered winter sports and finding skis, skates, snowboards, and snow shoes at estate sales. We also talked about holding estate sales in the cold, snow, and ice. This December many areas of the country are still waiting for snow while others are almost snow bound.

February we covered several memorable estate sales including one selling a Ford Model A with video, and our article about How To Find Your Estate Sale Company. We featured a liquidation sale with antique and vintage pinball machines and we wrote about several websites where you can advertise your estate sale company with out cost for basic information plus some great throwbacks.

In march we announced through a video a new advertiser, EstateSale.com. We discussed estate sales over Passover and Easter, what was selling at estate sales, having wardrobes before the age of closets, along with the difference between antique, vintage, and retro. We also wrote about what’s driving shoppers to estate sales.

An Over Collector – Hoarder Estate Sale With 1000’s Of Items

An enormous estate sale of an over collector in Chesterfield, MO starting on December 18th conducted by A New Beginnings Estate Sale. A that home has 1000’s of items, many of which were purchased within the last five years and still have the price tags on them begins. Over 300 throw pillows is just the beginning of what you will find at this hoarder sale.

Working with an over collector or as some call them a hoarder is challenging. If it isn’t someone who is deceased it will requires patience, emotional understanding, and some very basic physcology. Estate liquidators wear many hats for just this reason. Explaining how they will approach the enormous task and what has to be done is only the beginning of the estate liquidation process.

Estate sales with this type of volume require extra weeks and hours of work and many times extra staff. Many estate sale companies may increase their commission because of the volume of items, sorting, the extra staging, and pricing it requires, however, each company works differently.

With Christmas two weeks away, we wanted to present some of what buyers will find at this enormous sale. Click here for a link to this estate sale.

Labor Day Weekend A Time To Rest, Recharge And Restart

Labor Day weekend for most, signals the end of the summer season. In the northeast it also signals the beginning of school in most communities. Other areas of the country have already started back. Please drive carefully to estate sales on Thursdays and Fridays. Take care not to get so involved in the estate sale hunt and endanger our children.

There are many estate sale companies that will be hosting estate sales over the long weekend, however, many liquidators are going to take this last stretch of time to give themselves and their staff some rest before the hectic fall season of estate sales begin.
